TPN
TPN is a registered credit bureau, which has been established nationally since 2000 and is also registered with the Credit Bureau Association. Over time, the TPN database has grown to become the most comprehensive and up to date authority on tenant behaviour in South Africa, covering both the residential and commercial sectors of the market. As a result, TPN has built an enviable track record for professional expertise, supported by dynamic, unique products specifically for the property business. We also have longstanding associations with the two leading international consumer credit bureaux, Experian and TransUnion.
Our specialised database
Join our national network of over 5000 property managers, estate agents and landlords from all corners of South Africa and gain access to the only comprehensive credit report on your potential tenant.
Payment profile
TPN's unique database stores the payment behaviour of tenants. This information assists the landlord in making decisions with regards to affordability and willingness to pay when placing a tenant. TPN also assists with effortless collections by SMS'ing the tenant, on your behalf, to advise them of their credit record status, thus encouraging timeous payment.
Other integrated databases
We also integrate seamlessly into the following databases to assist you in placing a quality tenant: TransUnion have been creating advantages for Southern African businesses since 1901. Formally known as ITC, they rebranded themselves in 2002 as TransUnion ITC. In 2006 TransUnion ITC consolidated its global brand by combining all divisions into one integrated company under one unified brand - TransUnion. Experian combines the power of comprehensive credit history information, analytical expertise and sophisticated software to deliver a truly holistic solution to the South African credit industry. The Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (CIPRO) is the official custodian of the legal status of companies and close corporations. TPN mirrors the database to cross reference company and director information. Identity theft is a major problem in the South African rental market. TPN provides the tools to verify that the name/surname and ID number provided for your tenant match against the Department of Home Affairs database. A bank code is a code provided by the banks on a current (cheque) account. Let the bank decide whether they think your tenant is good for the proposed rental.
Free products and services
In order to assist our customers with collections, TPN has created a workflow with a number of add-on services to its bureau offering to reduce the probability of a good tenant turning bad. Our services encourage the tenant to build a positive credit profile by paying their rent on or before due date.
- Tenant welcome letter - this letter advises the tenant that you are a member of TPN and how they conduct themselves as a tenant will be recorded on the TPN credit bureau database.
- SMS alerts - TPN keeps the tenant informed by SMS'ing alerts when any critical changes happen on a tenants credit report (eg: payment profile updates and blacklistings)
- Blacklisting - We give you the ability to blacklist on both the TPN and TransUnion credit bureaux. When your ex-tenant cannot rent further accommodation they will want to clear their name by settling their debt with you.
- Training & support - TPN provides this service to our subscribers, to assist them with their tenant screening and debt collection skills.
- Free advertising - Market your rental properties on www.rentbay.co.za.
- Management system - Make use of www.rentbook.co.za to fully manage your rental collections. If you manage less than 20 properties, this service is free.
Collection services
In terms of the National Credit Regulations section 19(4) you are required to give your tenant 20 business days notice of your intention to blacklist them. In other words, you need to send them a letter of demand stating your intention to blacklist.TPN makes this simple by utilising TPN Collections services which notifies your tenant via SMS, email, fax and post. We keep a record of these notifications so that in the event of a dispute you are covered. Our subscribers will endorse the fact that letters sent via TPN Collections are more effective in encouraging payment than letters sent directly from the property manager.
National Credit Regulator
TPN is a registered credit bureau in terms of the National Credit Act (NCA) No 34 of 2005, registration number NCRCB08. All credit bureau registered with the NCR are audited as per the regulations made in terms of Section 73 of the NCA. This means that the staff at TPN are fully aware of the regulations and can accurately guide property managers, estate agents and landlords with regards to best practises when listing information on a bureau.
